Sermon Title: The Heart of Purity
Series Big Idea: Jesus' most famous sermon reveals the deep and lasting satisfaction of living life His way
Sermon Big Idea: Jesus exposes sinful hearts and offers true transformation
Introduction
In this message from Matthew 5:27–30, we look beyond surface-level obedience to hear Christ’s call to purity of heart. Jesus addresses not just our outward actions but the hidden thoughts and desires that reveal the true state of our souls.
Jesus Confronts the Real Issue: The Heart
Jesus confronts the real issue of sin by exposing the root; our hearts. He teaches that true purity is not simply avoiding the act of adultery but also rejecting the lustful intent within, showing us that sin is a matter of inward allegiance, not just outward behavior.
Only the Gospel Can Heal Our Brokenness
Jesus’ sermon points to the only true hope for our brokenness: the gospel of Jesus Christ. No amount of willpower or human effort can cleanse the heart; only God’s grace through repentance and faith in Christ can bring forgiveness and lasting transformation.
Conclusion
In response, we are called to deal honestly with our hearts, confess our need, and walk in the freedom and restoration that only Christ provides. This is a message of hope for all who recognize their brokenness and long for a new heart and a renewed life.
