Series Big Idea: Jesus' most famous sermon reveals the deep and lasting satisfaction of living life His way

Sermon Big Idea: Jesus fulfills the Law; righteousness comes by grace

Introduction

The Sermon on the Mount moves us from discovering our identity in Christ to actively living as disciples’ day by day. In Matthew 5:17-20, Jesus teaches that true righteousness is much more than external religion. It is the inward evidence of a transformed life.

Jesus Is the Fulfillment of the Law

Jesus is the central figure of all Scripture, fulfilling every law, prophecy, and promise that pointed to the Messiah. Through His life and sacrifice, He accomplishes the righteousness we could never achieve on our own.

Jesus Calls Us to a Surpassing Righteousness

The righteousness Jesus calls for is not about outperforming religious leaders, but about receiving a new, inward righteousness given by Christ. True discipleship is marked by a change of heart that goes far beyond keeping religious rules.

Conclusion

Jesus invites us to abandon self-made attempts at righteousness and to trust Him for true transformation. Our call is to respond in faith and live by grace. Living lives that display a surpassing righteousness only He can provide.
