Sermon Title: The Gift of Godly Unity
Series Big Idea: Focusing on the human quest for power, versus God’s sovereign reign
Sermon Big Idea: Christ unites His people in sacred, life-giving, Spirit-filled harmony
Scripture: (Psalm 133:1-3)
1 How delightfully good when brothers live together in harmony! 2 It is like fine oil on the head, running down on the beard, running down Aaron’s beard onto his robes. 3 It is like the dew of Hermon falling on the mountains of Zion. For there the Lord has appointed the blessing—life forevermore.
Introduction
In a world marked by division, Psalm 133 offers a beautiful vision of the unity God desires for His people. David gives us a song in two stanzas that celebrates both the goodness and the blessing of godly unity.
A Picture of Unity That Pleases God (v.1)
Unity among God’s people is both good and delightful—a reflection of His character and design. It is more than the absence of conflict; it is the presence of shared life, love, and purpose under God.
A Portrait of Unity That Brings God’s Presence (vv.2–3)
David describes unity as sacred and life-giving, using the imagery of holy oil on Aaron and dew on Zion. Where this kind of unity dwells, God commands His blessing and His presence rests.
Conclusion
Unity is a gift from above that we are called to treasure and preserve. When believers dwell together in gospel-centered harmony, they invite the presence and blessing of God into their midst.
